Hi Robyn Yes... VERY interesting indeed. 1:1 seems to be the ideal goal on everybody's minds these days. I like that this article talked about the writer's internal conflicts with this idea as it does seem to be heading down the 1 size fits all mode! Another thought that crosses my mind is... how does 1:1 device foster social competencies?
Before even reading the link on your post about 1:1 devices for all I thought I would sum up my thoughts.
I like the idea of 1:1 because every child can work on something at the same time and therefore no-one misses out. From first hand experiences with having only one iPad and before that 3 iPods, based in my class at present, not all children are getting an equal turn. I know the importance of group work and collaboration so therefore sometimes 1:1 is not ideal. But surely that is the teachers responsibility to know when 1:1 is appropriate and when collaboration is required.
Now I must read your link and see if my thoughts change....
